Sporting goods (like a full hockey bag) are free to take as checked luggage if it's under 23kg and not exceeding: Length 1.8m x Width 0.8m x Height 1.20 m.
Most bags are around 0.8 x 0.5 x 0.5m
Sticks are highly unlikely to exceed 1.8m
Sporting equipment is defined as a bag or piece of equipment obviously dedicated to the pursuit of sporting activity.
If you exceed the 23kg weight limit, it only attracts 50% of the standard overweight charge of $115. But it cannot be over 32kg (i.e. 31.4kg is OK, 31.5kg isnot OK)Baggage exceeding this limit will not be allow on the plane.
